7 Months!

Well Owen reached 7 months already on Sunday... he's still not crawling, but he can get his knees up underneath him and lunge forward! The only problem with this is that he usually face-plants into whatever he's trying to move toward. :) I'm only partially looking forward to him being able to crawl... on the one side, he'll probably be happier because he can actually get around instead of getting stuck on his tummy. On the other side, I'm going to have to do some MAJOR baby-proofing! I already have to make sure I keep checking on him if I set him on the floor, because I'll put him by his toys and within 5 minutes he's on the other side of the room trying to eat the dog's toy!
He has reached a different milestone today, though - when I felt his gums this morning I felt two sharp little points! So his teeth have finally cut through! I can't see them, but I'm pretty sure they're both through because I feel 2 points.
Well that's all for today... just thought I would post a quick update.

From the Beginning...

Since this is the first official blog I've ever posted, I figured I should just briefly catch everyone up on what's been happening since Owen's birth.
Owen Gerrit Boverhof was born April 15, 2009 at 5:10PM weighing 7lbs 15oz, and measuring 21inches. We took him home 48hrs later, and had a rough night of keeping him alseep... which worked great as long as he was on one of us. So Owen slept okay - just waking up to eat every 2.5-3hrs - but we didn't. The next night was not much better - we tried the bassinet, but didn't know that the rule of "no blankets" didn't apply to swaddling! So the poor boy was laying there with no blankets - that didn't work so well, either. After that, we swaddled him before bed and that helped a lot. However, even up to this point (6.5 months), he has never been a very good sleeper. We tried letting him "cry it out" around 4.5 months, but he backtracked when he got a cold... the same thing happened around 5.5 months, and now at 6.5 months, he's just getting over a cold, so I think it's time to try it again. :(
Besides sleeping, however, Owen has been a WONDERFUL baby! He is almost always in a good mood, usually smiles at everyone (that's starting to change now), and hardly ever cries - I couldn't have asked for a better child! The only thing that frusterates me sometimes is that he didn't like to sit and play with his toys... he always wanted to be held or played with. But it kept him happy, and that's one of the advantages of being a first child - mommy can give him all the attention he wants! :) Now that he can sit up though, he is much happier sitting and playing with toys... if he drops it, he can just pick it back up! We have a pretty good system going on during the day now if I need to get things done around the house: I sit Owen on his play mat in the living room, and Keela runs around him playing with her ball. He LOVES Keela, so this is hysterical to him! If she leaves the room or he gets bored, he just plays with his toys. :) It's so cute, I usually peek in there to check on them, and Keela is typically sitting in front of his feet with Owen either grabbing at her, talking to his toys, or putting them in his mouth. :)
I think that's all I have to report for now! But since I haven't updated at all since Owen's birth, here are some of his more interesting milestones up to this point:
5 days - 7lbs, 14oz
4 weeks - 10lbs, 5oz
6 weeks - first smiles!
2 months - 14lbs
2.5 months - giggles, squeals, & makes razz noises
3 months - batted at toys held in front of him
4 months - 18lbs, 2oz
- first meal of cereal (loved it!)
4.5 months - rolls over
- could sit up with support
5 months - could sit up, but not catch himself
5.5 months - sits up & reaches for toys
6 months - gets up on all fours, rocks back & forth
6.25 months - 21lbs, 4oz
